Join Our Award Winning Team as a Freelance Science Communicator

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly organised, reliable, and engaging Freelance STEM Communicator to deliver hands-on science workshops, after-school clubs, STEM days, birthday parties, and community events. This role involves working directly with children aged 2–12 years, delivering high-quality, curriculum-linked sessions that inspire curiosity and a love of science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, practical STEM sessions in schools, community settings, and at events

  • Lead after-school clubs, school workshops, STEM days, and weekend birthday parties

  • Adapt delivery style, language, and pace to suit a wide range of ages and abilities

  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment

  • Set up, pack down, and safely transport equipment to and from venues

  • Follow all company procedures, session plans, and health & safety guidelines

  • Represent the company professionally when working with schools, parents, and partners

  • Support smooth session delivery through strong organisation and time management

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working directly with children aged 2–12 years

  • Ability to confidently engage and communicate with children of varying ages and needs

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and time management

  • Ability to follow procedures and deliver sessions to a high standard

  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle

  • Willingness to travel across South Wales and transport equipment

  • Availability to work after school hours, weekends, and during school holidays

  • A genuine interest in science and STEM education

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Background in science, education, or a related field

  • Experience delivering workshops, clubs, or informal education sessions

  • Understanding of how to differentiate learning for different age groups

  • Confidence speaking to both small and large groups

  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt sessions when needed

  • Enthusiastic, approachable, and professional manner

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection procedures

Training & Support

Full training will be provided.

All new team members will undergo a probationary period, during which sessions will be observed to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with company standards.

This is a flexible freelance role suited to individuals who are passionate about inspiring children through hands-on learning and can consistently deliver high-quality STEM experiences.

High standards of professionalism, punctuality, and reliability are essential, along with a commitment to delivering excellent experiences for every child.

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive freelance rates depending on session type and responsibility

  • Typical earnings equate to approximately £20 per hour

  • Higher rates available for leading larger sessions (e.g. STEM days, parties)

  • Mileage contribution provided (in line with company policy)

  • All resources and session plans provided

  • Paid training period

  • Opportunities for regular, ongoing work
